REDEFINING PERFECT
by Naomi Holdt

The world has lied…
It says:
“Be Perfect…
Dress in these clothes
Have this body
Buy this car
Eat this food
Choose these friends…
This is a happy life.
This is a perfect life.”
So we strive for perfection out of fear…
Fear of being rejected.
Fear of being left unchosen.
Fear of being labeled a “misfit”.
Fear of not being good enough.
Fear that we are unacceptable.
Fear of our own human selves…
But what is perfect?
A twisted persecution of what does not exist.
Illusions that swirl our minds to create standards that hold true for no one.
NO ONE.
We attempt to hide our imperfections…
Our masked insecurities…
Our less than perfect selves…
Our humanness…
But…
There is nothing more powerful than owning our deeply flawed and utterly beautiful humanity with courage and pride…
Perfect lies nestled in your rolls, your wrinkles, your deeply-woven scars, exactly as you are, in that reflection staring back at you…
Just be you.
Where you are.
All of you.
THIS is happiness…
THIS is perfection…
